Quotes to Ponder

December 03, 2007

Dear Musers Who Matter,

Most writers love good quotes. Here are a few my daughter shared with me and that I'd like to pass on to you. Be inspired and amused! :-)

Cicero
Times are bad. Children no longer obey their parents, and everyone is writing a book.

Cyril Connolly
Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self.

G. K. Chesterton
A good novel tells us the truth about its hero; but a bad novel tells us the truth about its author.

Jean Sibelius
Pay no attention to what the critics say; there has never been set up a statue in honor of a critic.

Kurt Vonnegut Jr.
Any reviewer who expresses rage and loathing for a novel is preposterous. He or she is like a person who has put on full armor and attacked a hot fudge sundae.

Lord Brabazon
I take the view, and always have, that if you cannot say what you are going to say in twenty minutes you ought to go away and write a book about it.

Rita Mae Brown
A deadline is negative inspiration. Still, it’s better than no inspiration at all.

A gentle reminder to get working on your Christmas limerick for our big contest. The deadline date is December 21st. The top three winning limericks will be published on Christmas Eve day.

And that's my "musing that matters" for today. What's yours? :-)

Blessings,

MaryAnn

Hope Chastain had something to say . . .

NaNoWriMo is inspiring, too... Loved that one about the full armor attacking a hot fudge sundae...

And thanks for the reminder about the limericks... I'd totally forgotten...

Pam Halter had something to say . . .

Okay, I'll get the ball rolling.

We put up the lights and the tree,
The eggnog is topped with whipped cream.
Our hearts fill with mirth,
it's Jesus's birth.
He came to save you and save me!
