On Observation and Participation
The first snow has fallen in southern New Jersey, bringing with it a bone-chilling coldness in the air. From the warmth of my office, however, I can simply enjoy its beauty as it layers the trees outside my window with a mantle of white. I don 't have to go out to shovel it off the driveway.
This brings to mind the difference between observation and participation. It is easy to observe the snow from the warmth and safety of my home. It is another thing to go out into the snow, shovel the sidewalk, and endure the bitter cold. One takes no effort; the other takes a lot of it.
The same is true of writing. We can choose simply to observe other writers around us writing and getting published, while we make excuses for our lack of effort. That's the easy way. Or else, we can don our writing coats and trudge out into the place of hard work, possible rejection, and moving out of our comfort zone.
What do you choose? Are you content with merely being an observer? Or do you want to participate in your own writing success?
The choice is up to you.
And that's my "musing that matters" for today. What's yours? :)
Blessings,
MaryAnn

I have already put on my writing coat and boots and am moving out into the hard places. It is much more exciting than standing inside and admiring the view. Like snow, I can appreciate qualities while doing that I never even realized existed as a spectator. Hard work is a given but oh the joy of seeing a cleared path and knowing that God has blessed your efforts. Thanks, MaryAnn
Thanks, maryann, for another great post that encourages us to just do it! This is very good for me while I am on my push to do my final rewrite and get my MS off to an agent and editor by Dec. 31st. rose
