Happy Goal Year!

January 03, 2008

Happy New Year, Musers Who Matter! May this be your best writing year yet!

I got my days mixed up this week and thought that today was the 2nd. So I apologize that this blog entry is a day late. Below you will find goals set by some of our Musers for 2008. If you forgot to send me your goals, please post them as a comment.

Thanks to all of you who participated in our goal-setting project for 2008. Now be sure to keep your goals in front of you and look at them every day, and even several times a day. You will be amazed at how focusing on your goals will go far toward helping you achieve them.

SHERRI LANGTON
I plan to sit down today or tomorrow and write in my little 2008 planner of what I want to accomplish in writing. Right now, I plan to keep querying general market magazines on my ideas. I have one editor very interested in an idea, and I'm waiting to hear from her. I plan to follow through with writing projects I didn't do because of other assignments earlier this year. I also need to market my reprints, which fell by the wayside in 2007.

SUSIE J.
1) Finish editing my novel.

2) Start a blog.

3) Write a synopsis and book
proposal.

4) I'd also like to write more
devotionals this year.

MARY ANN DIORIO
--To finish writing SICILIAN SUNRISE
--To write a monthly article for A TIME TO LOVE magazine
--To submit Bible Bytes for Tots to a publisher
--To submit The Dandelion Patch to a publisher
--To submit two completed short stories to an online magazine
--To write three short stories for children.
--To write 12 poems.
--To attend one writers' conference.
--To read a minimum of 25 novels.
--To read a minimum of 12 books on writing.
--To take 3 online writing courses.

Blessings to all of you for a productive writing year in 2008!

Pam Halter had something to say . . .

I taped my goals on my desk right before I read today's Musing.

Remember, if you don't set a goal, you'll never accomplish it.

I'm still praying and thinking about my goals, but one main one is to have an article or story 'out there' to an editor at all times. I also want to write another series of Homeschool Co-op creative writing lessons before March. I'd like to start a short story, as a beginning in the process of writing a Christian historical fiction novel someday. (You, MaryAnn, gave me that suggestion a while back!:-)

Hope Chastain had something to say . . .

My first goal is to finish the first draft of my NaNovel by the end of January, so I can get it to my critique partners and get their input. Then, to write a (hopefully fascinating) synopsis and have the corrected draft ready to present at the Romance Writers of America conference in San Francisco (which will take a miracle for Mom and me to be able to attend; however, it's a goal).

Those are my writing goals. My music goal is to finish recording all the vocals and acoustic instruments for my album before the spring bird, bug, frog & toad concerts set in. Then, to mix the album after all the tracks are recorded, and release it before my trip to San Francisco. (If it happens that I can't go to SF, then we aim to go to VA, where we've been asked to do a couple of concerts; plan to go whether CA becomes a reality or not. Both CA and VA will require a financial miracle at this point, but our Lord is in the miracle business, and if He wants us to go, He'll provide.)

My spiritual goals are to listen more to the leading of the Holy Spirit, and to be sensitive when He is guiding me. I want to be more ready to speak and share my faith, which hasn't always been easy for me. I want it to grow naturally out of conversation, and for it to "minister grace unto the hearers."

Thank you, MaryAnn, for getting us to post goals, so that we'll have some accountability. I did write out more goals for 2008, but most of them have nothing to do with writing or music, so I won't share them here. They are in my prayer journal, where the Lord instructed me to write them.
:-) I just have to say how thankful I am that the Lord led me to your Musings that Matter site. It is a true blessing, being able to interact with others who love the Lord and writing. To all of you, I pray the Lord's blessings for you.
Have a Great 2008!
