Writing to the Culture
As we approach another presidential election in the fall, the campaigns are engendering heated debates on a variety of critical issues. My daughter Lia and I have been closely following both the Republican and Democratic debates, as well as the caucuses and primaries.
Like many Christians, you may be thinking, "If it has to do with politics or religion, I'm out of here." But are you really?
The truth is that we followers of Jesus Christ have been given a mandate to work with our Lord in establishing the Kingdom of God on the earth. As God's writers, we fulfill that mandate through our writing.
This means that we have a responsibility to engage our culture with our words. We who know the truth must proclaim it. To do anything less is to grieve the heart of God.
Statistics show that our culture's world view, even among Christians, is decidedly secular. This is a sad commentary on our failure as Christians to impact our culture. As the beloved and late James Russell, founder of the AMY Foundation, used to say, "We've done a great job of evangelizing, but a lousy job of discipling."
So during this election year, why not use your writing talents to help point our country back to the God on Whom it was founded? Why not use your writing gift to restore Biblical values to our great land?
And that's my "musing that matters" for today. What's yours? :)
Blessings,
MaryAnn

Great idea. I think we are reaching a time of historical importance, and it is our duty to listen carefully and speak with conviction. I think Pam is on the right track, too.
I don't even pretend to understand everything that happens during a Presidential Election. I am limited in my ability to grasp the various levels of politics. But I can pray in Jesus' Name!! So, every day I pray over the election process. I pray that God's children will hear His voice and know what to do. I pray over the candidate that is God's choice; I pray for his strength, his spirit, his finances and that he would be surrounded by men and woman of God. I pray that the Holy Spirit would awaken the sleeping Christians with a sense of urgency to vote prayerfully.

That's the point of being a Christian writer, isn't it? It's always my goal to touch someone's life with my words. I pray God will take my humble offering and use it in a great and mighty way!
