Normal Is a Good Thing
Normal is a good thing. Too often we tend to get bored with the same old, same old. But the same old, same old has its advantages. Here are a few:
1. Normal means the sea is relatively calm and there is no major storm in our life.
2. Normal means we're engaged in daily routines that provide a sense of security.
3. Normal means we can focus on the task at hand without major interruptions.
As a poem I read years ago by Mary Jean Iron proclaims, "Normal day, let me be aware of the treasure you are."
And that's my "musing that matters" for today. What's yours? :)
Blessings,
MaryAnn

I am a huge fan of "normal"! I can't get enough of normal. Stress is no fun, battles are not comforting but normal is a wonderful friend who I love to spend time with.
I'm not only a fan of "normal," I can appreciate "boring." The last two years of my life were anything but normal or boring.
Throughout this period, a day without a doctor appointment, an ER visit, a hospitalization, a financial crisis, or some other disaster was a blissful respite from the turbulence.
An old song talked about counting your blessings one by one. Count your many blessings. See what God has done. No matter what happens during my day, I try to find more than one thing to add to my gratitude list.
I can relate to Susan's comment. I treasure "boring" or "uneventful" more than normal. Normal for me is filled with taking care of my autistic daughter's needs, doctor runs, ER runs and labwork.
But through all, God sustains and encourages us and that's something to be thankful for!
Unfortunately, I can only recognize normal when I don't have it! Then again, one of my normal days is another person's chaos level.
Ah well. Perhaps BEING normal does not equal LIVING normal.

Hi MaryAnn...
Your message is a good one. Sometimes my days do seem very normal, but as you said, they are often a blessing compared to what others are going through. Lately, I have had so many prayer requests for serious problems. So many people have lives that have been turned upside-down with cancer and other illnesses. The poem you referred to makes me realize how blessed I am to have a "normal" life with no major crises.
