Blog Tours

February 22, 2008

The emergence of the Internet has witnessed the development of a writing phenomenon that is fast overshadowing the traditional book tour. I am referring to the Blog Tour.

Authors of published books are now using the blog to promote both their books and their platforms. The major advantage resides in tremendous savings of both travel expenses and travel time.

Touring the world from one's home would have been considered impossible only a few decades ago. But today, blog tours are in, and they're in for good.

How does a writer take a blog tour? Here are a few tips:

1) Research blogs that would be a good match for your book. Then write to the blog host and offer to be interviewed.

2) Once your request is accepted, send the bloghost a complimentary copy of your book for review.

3) Advertise your blog tour through as many venues as possible, including other blogs.

4) Suggest a blog contest with your book as the prize.

5) Mention in your interview that you are open to doing tours on other blogs.

Blog tours are an inexpensive and fun way to get your message out there. Be sure to check them out.

And that's my "musing that matters" for today. What's yours? :)

Blessings,

MaryAnn

Another blessing from God! How often I have relied on the internet when keeping presence in our home is a top priority for me. The energy and resources God provides for us is infinite. May we carefully consider the costs & sacrifices involved in traditional book tours and wisely utilize the marvelous resources at our fingertips.

Thanks for this information. I would like to add to this; one of my younger colleagues has written a fantasy novel for adolescents. He has been interviewed and reviewed in NYC. His first step was to enter a contest and he won third or fourth place. Then he joined a blog/messageboard and put up excerpts of his book online. He has been reviewed online, and some of his reviews have been favorable, while others have not, but the point is this; we can all review his work, if we choose. Yes, the internet is a valuable marketing tool. He has gone to NYC to read a certain amount of words aloud before a panel, and his next trip is this week.

I'm just learning about Blog Tours, too. The internet is an amazing and powerful tool. I have friends who have created Book Trailers and put them on YouTube. That's another way to spread the news.

While I wish we could just focus on our writing, learning other ways to market our books can help boost our creativity. And that doesn't hurt a thing.
