Maximizing Your Writing Strengths
We humans tend to compare our greatest weaknesses with the greatest strengths of others. In so doing, we almost always feel that we come up short.
We writers do the same thing with our writing. Instead of focusing on what we write best, we look over the fence and want to write what our neighbor writer is writing and in the same way she is writing it.
One of the keys of writing success is to evaluate your writing strengths and weaknesses. One is gifted to write poetry; another is gifted to write columns. One writes great fiction, while another writes fantastic devotionals. One stands out in writing essays; another excels in writing crossword puzzles.
What are your writing strengths and weaknesses? If you don't know, take the time to find out. Ask yourself the following questions:
1) What kind of writing do I prefer to do?
2) What kind of writing do I do best?
3) What kind of writing comes most easily to me?
4) What pieces of my writing draw the most positive feedback?
5) What kind of writing gives me the greatest joy in the doing?
Answering these questions honestly will help you to maximize your writing strengths and keep you from thinking the grass is greener in your writing neighbor's yard.
And that's my "musing that matters" for today. What's yours? :)
Blessings,
MaryAnn

I like writing for children and have been published with such.
I love to read fantasy. I love the genre in books and movies. Always have. But I never thought I could write it until I got a fun idea and tried it. Not only do I enjoy it, but I think I do it well. When I attend Mt. Hermon next month, I'll be talking to an agent about it.
I still like writing for children and have not given that up. But my joy and delight is fantasy.

"Poetry and Devotions." That was my answer to all five questions. I used to feel intimidated when I read the list of other people's credentials, but I have learned that I love doing what I am doing and feel that is where the Lord wants me. I have had some longer articles published, but I am most comfortable writing these two things. I admire those of you who are writing books and other kinds of manuscripts and encourage you to keep writing what God puts upon your heart. The main thing is that we all write on a regular basis. The world needs to hear the Good News, but "for them to hear about the Lord, someone must tell them." Romans 10:14 (NCV) Let us be the ones!
