Using Symbols
On Holy Thursday evening, I had the wonderful privilege of attending a Seder, the Jewish Passover meal. It was not the first time I'd attended a Seder, but it was an especially memorable time for me as I celebrated with fellow believers the Jewish roots of our Redemption through Christ.
Symbolism has always been a big part of my life. Symbols are signs that point to other things. Biblical symbols are signs pointing to eternal truths. As writers, we use symbolism to convey truths that point to Christ.
If you want to add zest to your writing, use symbolism. If you're not sure how, read the Book of Revelation for the best examples. It is replete with magnificent symbolism that describes and points to our awesome Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
And that's my "musing that matters" for today. What's yours? :)
Blessings,
MaryAnn
P.S. Thank you all so very much for your prayers regarding my teleclass on coaching the Christian client. The class went very well and feedback was quite positive. I could sense the power of your prayers both during my preparation and during the actual class itself. Again, thank you!
P.P.S. This Friday, March 28th, is Accountability Friday. Be sure to send in your accomplishments for March and your writing goals for April.

Symbolism is often used to good effect, not only in books, but in films. One scene from the 1985 (I think) western "Silverado" is near the end, when one of the four heroes is faced off against his former friend, who has become a villain. As they draw their guns, the hero's shot finds its mark, and standing in the background behind the hero, shining white, stands the church. That was one of the most beautiful pieces of symbolism I had seen in a long time.
Thank you for the reminder of this underused writing tool! I'm glad you had a Seder celebration. I started an article on my blog yesterday about how Easter was too early this year, since it came before Passover, but my server went down and I wasn't able to post it. I may finish & post it, anyway, even though it's late (though not tonight).
I'm thankful your teleclass went so well! What a blessing!

How very lovely to spend Holy Thursday at a Seder Meal. I know it isn't Passover, so I wonder whether it was celebrated at your church. My church usually has Seders, and since I was raised in an area with Jewish people, I have attended many Seders and Shabbat. I also agree with you about Revelations and symbolism. Thank you so much for reminding us of the this most important rhetorical device.
