The Art of Storytelling

April 28, 2008

A special friend of mine delights the young and the young-at-heart with her wonderful gift of storytelling. Her name is Katherine Ross.

Kathy and her husband Ed own Pageant Wagon Productions, a company that combines storytelling events with bookselling. The Rosses travel around southern New Jersey sharing their talents and love of books. They also operate an online bookstore.

Storytelling is an art that is gaining--or regaining--a new level of prestige throughout the United States. In fact, East Tennessee State University now offers the Master of Arts degree in Storytelling.

All of us are storytellers in our own way. Some of us spin yarns in the form of fiction; others of us use storytelling techniques to bring our non-fiction to life.

Jesus used stories called parables to illustrate eternal truths. As the Master Storyteller, He is our example as we use our writing to tell the greatest story ever told.

Hi MaryAnn....

How blessed we are to be gifted by the Lord to spread the gospel message in so many different ways. No matter what genre we write in, we can touch souls. What greater gift is there? It's so easy for us to get sidetracked with unimportant things and miss out on fulfilling the great commission to reach the lost and hurting. I know I am guilty of not using my gift as often as I should. How about you? Let's step out together and make this the best writing year yet--all for God's glory.

Wow! How wonderful for that couple to do that! ~ One of the things I miss most about not teaching Kindergarten anymore is the storytelling...I absolutely loved to put something in my own words for the children (and watch the expressions on their little faces!). Blessings, Patti
